Marathon Canceled – level 2
30-06-2020 07:00
Organizers of the New York City Marathon decided to cancel this year’s event. The New York City Marathon is the largest marathon in the world, and many people prepare for this event all year.
The marathon usually takes place in November; however, this year, there will only be a virtual race. All marathon runners, who have registered, will get their money back, or they will get a free entry to one of the next marathons.
Last year, more than 53,000 runners crossed the finish line. Organizers said that the number of people was too big, and the risk of spreading the coronavirus was too high. Organizers spoke with the mayor of New York, who was happy about their decision.
Difficult words: virtual (something that happens on the Internet), register (to get on an official list of all people who take part in an event), finish line (the place where a race ends).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
