Marathon runner killed – level 1

Rebecca Cheptegei is a runner from Uganda. She is in the Paris Olympics.

Her ex-boyfriend attacks her. He pours petrol on her and sets her on fire. This happens after she comes home from church in Kenya. Rebecca is very hurt. She dies four days later. Her ex-boyfriend is also hurt and in the hospital.

Rebecca starts running for Uganda in 2010. She also wins a medal in mountain running. People say that she is very kind and friendly. Rebecca is from Uganda but lives and trains in Kenya. She is the third woman athlete who dies in Kenya since 2010.

Difficult words: attack (to try to hurt someone), pour (to make something flow from a container), medal (a prize for winning a race or competition).
