Marocco caves – level 3
18-09-2024 07:00
Bhalil, a small town in Morocco, is famous for its ancient cave houses. These caves have been home to different cultures since the 4th century, starting with the Amazigh people, followed by the Volubilis and the Banu Hilal.
Today, many caves are still used, while some are tourist attractions. Locals like Thami Anjam and Najia Sribet share their caves with tourists, showing the beauty and challenges of living in a rock formation. Humidity is a major issue, but many caves have been modernized with electricity and water. Bhalil’s tourism brings visitors from all over the world, benefiting the local economy. However, modern houses are replacing the caves, threatening their survival.
To preserve these historic dwellings, local organizations are seeking government support to restore the caves. Despite the difficulties, the caves remain an important part of Bhalil’s cultural identity, attracting hundreds of tourists annually.
Difficult words: humidity (moisture in the air), modernized (made more modern, improved), dwelling (a house or place to live in).
