New Delhi airport roof collapse – level 2

04-07-2024 07:00

Heavy rain and wind at New Delhi’s main airport on Friday caused a roof to collapse. One person died and domestic flights stopped.

India’s aviation minister said the situation is now under control. The terminal is closed for inspection to stop more problems. New Delhi had 228.1 mm of rain in 24 hours. It caused flight delays, metro station closures, blocked roads, and big traffic jams.

The roof collapse happened at Terminal 1 only months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi started a renovation project. Photos online showed cars crushed under steel beams. All flights from Terminal 1 stopped until early afternoon.

Difficult words: aviation (activity connected with aircraft), closure (when something closes), renovation (repairing a building).
