New rules in female athletics – level 1

World Athletics will check the gender of athletes who want to be in the female category. Athletes must take a test.

The president, Sebastian Coe, says this is important to keep women’s sports safe and fair. The first tests will happen in Tokyo in September. The organization is finding a company to do the tests. Athletes will take the test only once.

Coe says that this is an important rule. Maybe other sports will also start using these tests. Some people do not like this rule. World Athletics says the tests are easy. They do not hurt. But some people are worried about them.

Difficult words: gender (whether you are a man or woman), female (a woman), rule (what you must or must not do).
