No screens in Swedish schools – level 1
04-05-2026 07:00
Sweden is making a big change in its schools. For a long time, children use computers every day.
Now, the government wants children to use books and pens. They want children to read from paper. This is because many children cannot read well. Books help children think and learn.
There are new rules now. Young children do not use computers in school. Soon, no one can use a phone in class. Teachers say that screens are not good for small children. They want children to look at the book and the teacher. Other countries are watching Sweden, for example, Finland and Denmark. They want to see if books help students.
Some people are afraid of this change. They think that children need computers for work. But Sweden says that books and writing are very important.
Difficult words: government (the group of people who make rules for a country), rule (what you must or must not do), afraid (worried).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What reason do teachers give for banning screens for small children in school?
