One year with Argentina’s President – level 2
13-12-2024 15:00
Javier Milei is celebrating his first year as Argentina’s President.
He introduced economic measures to lower inflation and stabilize the economy. These included cutting public jobs and reducing subsidies for services like transport and electricity. While inflation dropped, over half the population didn’t have enough money even for food.
Some people believe that Milei’s reforms will fix the country’s problems and bring foreign money. Other people say that these changes only help rich people and hurt the poor.
Although Milei’s plans may help Argentina grow in the future, many people feel that they don’t get enough help from the government.
Difficult words: measure (a plan or action which someone takes to achieve something), stabilize (to make something stable), subsidy (money the government gives to help pay for something).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What are some of the economic measures introduced by President Javier Milei to stabilize Argentina's economy and how have these measures been received by the population?
