Many people in Japan are very lonely. Japan has many old people. It is the oldest population in the world. Many old people live alone because their children live far away.

Last year, many thousands of people die alone in their homes. Now, some good workers visit old people every morning to give them food and talk to them. But young people are lonely too because they work too much.

Since 2021, Japan has a special minister to help lonely people. Now, people can use phone apps. They pay to talk to a person because they want a friend.

Difficult words: lonely (sad because there is nobody to be with you or talk to you), population (the number of people who live in a town or country), minister (an important leader who cares about a specific thing in a country).
