Police hurt a big hacker network – level 2
26-02-2024 07:00
An international police operation named Operation Kronos shut down a hacker group. The LockBit ransomware group is well known for its harmful actions.
Fourteen countries got together and they closed 34 servers across various locations, including the Netherlands, Germany, Finland, France, Switzerland, Australia, the US, and the UK. Police arrested two people linked to the group in Poland and Ukraine, and froze more than 200 cryptocurrency accounts.
LockBit targeted government agencies, hospitals, schools, and global companies, and the group conducted over 1,700 attacks worldwide. Experts say that the operation was the most important disruption to ransomware ever.
Difficult words: ransomware (bad software which steals information and then wants money for it), target (to choose someone or something and an object of attack), disruption (problems which interrupt an event or activity).
