On Wednesday, Russian president Vladimir Putin spoke to the Russian people on national TV.

Putin said that western countries threatened Russia when they delivered weapons to Ukraine. These weapons helped Ukraine fight in Crimea and other parts of Russia.

Putin also said that the attack with shells at the Zaporizhzia nuclear power plant was the West’s fault. The attack was very dangerous because it could cause a nuclear disaster.

Putin said that some western politicians spoke about using nuclear weapons against Russia. He said that Russia was ready to use its nuclear weapons, too. Some of them were more modern than the western countries’ weapons.

Difficult words: threaten (to tell someone that you will do something bad if he doesn’t do what you want), shell (to attack with guns or bombs), nuclear power plant (a factory which makes electricity from tiny objects called atoms).
