Scientists find dangerous red ants in Sicily, Italy. They first see these ants in Europe last year.
These ants come from South America. They are a big problem in Brazil, China, and the US. These countries spend a lot of money on killing the ants. These ants hurt plants. They eat the roots. They attack other insects. Nobody knows how these ants get to Europe. But they can be a big problem for Europe in the future. They often are in gardens and playgrounds.
In Sicily, workers use steam machines. They destroy ants. But there are still new nests. It is necessary to kill the queens.
Difficult words: ant (a small insect with a sting), root (the part of a plant which is under the ground), steam (when water boils and turns into hot gas).
