Rhinos in South Africa – level 1
17-12-2014 15:00
This news is about rhinos. Around 20,000 rhinos live in South Africa. That is about 80 per cent of all the rhinos in the world. Sadly, these rhinos are not safe. Poachers kill them.
People and drones protect the rhinos, but they are not enough. South Africa needs something better. People there train dogs. People can only see poachers, but dogs can smell them.
South Africa hopes that the dogs will help. People also move some rhinos to other countries. They will be safer there.
Difficult words: poacher (a person who kills animals to sell their parts for money), drone (a small plane without a pilot), will (something which will happen in the future).
You can read the original story and watch the video in the Level 3 section.
Do you hate people who hurt animals?
