Saving West Papua forests – level 1

26-06-2024 07:00

In Indonesia, people want to save forests in West Papua. They start a campaign. It is called ‘All Eyes on Papua’.

Indigenous people and palm oil companies are fighting in court. Many people share information about the campaign online. The campaign is like ‘All Eyes on Rafah’.

Indonesia makes the most palm oil in the world. It hurts forests and animals. In 2011, the government stops giving new permits for palm oil in new forests. They cannot cut down new trees. Activists want the government to care more about the natural world. Online help is important too. It can help indigenous people in court.

Difficult words: campaign (activities to achieve something), indigenous (existing for a very long time), permit (an official document which allows you to do something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the significance of online support in the 'All Eyes on Papua' campaign and how does it aid indigenous people in their fight against palm oil companies in court?
