Sick chimps eat special plants – level 1
28-06-2024 15:00
Scientists watch wild chimpanzees in Uganda. They eat special plants to help them feel better. These plants can stop pain and kill bacteria.
Researchers watch the chimps for four years. They follow the chimps and see what they eat when sick or hurt. They take those plants and test them. They think this can help find new medicines.
The study shows that many plants stop bacteria and help with pain. This means that chimps know which plants can help them. They are smart.
Difficult words: bacteria (a very small organism which can make you sick), pain (when something hurts), smart (clever).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What is the significance of the chimps' ability to identify and use medicinal plants in relation to finding new medicines?
