Snake school – level 1

07-10-2024 15:00

In Australia’s Northern Territory, there is a special course. It teaches people what to do when they see a snake.

Johnny McGannon is a teacher. He says that snakes do not usually want to hurt people. Students learn to be safe around snakes, even very dangerous ones like pythons and king brown snakes.

Thirty people finish the course this year. They are workers from different jobs like the military and zoos. Some people think it is better to learn from experience. You will learn more than in a class. But Johnny says that teaching people helps both snakes and people stay safe.

Difficult words: python (a very large snake which kills animals), military (people who work for the army), experience (learning from doing something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the purpose of the special course taught by Johnny McGannon in Australia's Northern Territory?
