Technology and Crimes – level 3

The US and the UK entered an agreement to share data for investigations into serious crimes.
If someone commits a crime in one country and the data is in another country, authorities may jump through legal hoops for years to get the data. This makes the investigation difficult to complete. The agreement lets the US and the UK ask for data from the other country without the legal hoops.
However, the agreement does not stop companies from encrypting the data. Facebook wants to encrypt its user messages. The US, the UK, and Australia are asking Facebook to address their safety issues first.
Difficult words: enter an agreement (agree to follow a plan), jump through hoops (do a lot of work to get one thing done), encrypt (make data difficult or impossible to read).
