The Year of the Tiger – level 1
07-01-2022 07:00
A new lunar year starts in China. This year is called the Year of a Tiger. People celebrate it on February 1. It is a quieter time than usual. COVID-19 makes it quieter.
People hang red lights and paper ornaments. This keeps people safe from bad things.
The lunar year comes from the zodiac. The zodiac has twelve different signs. Every year has a name after one sign. Last year is the Year of the Ox.
People believe that this year will be good. A tiger is a strong animal. It will stop all bad things. People believe that COVID-19 will end.
Difficult words: lunar year (the moon shows when this year starts and ends), ornament (a thing which makes something else look nicer), zodiac (twelve signs which repeat every month, and they show the planets and stars).
