UK protests – level 1

07-08-2024 07:00

There are protests against immigrants in the UK. The protests are violent. Protesters and police officers are hurt.

Police try to keep protesters and anti-racism groups apart. The protests are in many cities and towns. Officials say that they may continue. The government says that protesters can go to prison. The government helps police stop the protests.

This is a big problem for the government. The trouble starts after false stories online about a killing. Social media spreads these false stories. Police are working to keep things calm and stop more violence.

Difficult words: immigrant (a person who comes to live in a foreign country), anti-racism group (people who fight against racism), violence (hurting people and breaking things).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What do officials say about the potential duration of the protests in the UK?
