Ukrainian children come home – level 2
11-04-2023 15:00
A rescue mission successfully reunited more than 30 children with their families in Ukraine.
These children stayed in areas which Russia occupied during the war. Russian authorities sent these children to summer camps which should last two weeks. But the children had to stay there for four to six months and they often moved from place to place. They stayed in separate buildings and they got information that their families didn’t want them anymore.
The children traveled across four countries before they could meet with their families again. According to Ukrainian officials, Russia illegally deported nearly 19,500 children since February last year.
Difficult words: rescue mission (an operation to find and bring to safety people in a difficult situation), reunite (to come together again), deport (to make someone leave a country).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What can be done to prevent Russia from illegally deporting children in the future?
