USA and Iran – level 3

The Pentagon is part of the military branch of the American government, and Pentagon officials reportedly scheduled to present plans to the White House last Thursday to send up to 10,000 more troops to the Middle East.
People say that nothing has been finalised and it is still unclear if the White House will approve the request. The move aims to boost defence in the region, in particular around Iran. The Pentagon also seeks more Patriot missile defence systems, as well as more ships as part of its proposal.
The Iran–USA relationship has worsened in the past several weeks. The USA said that Iran mobilised proxy groups to target American forces in Iraq and Syria.
Difficult words: boost (make more powerful), mobilise (get ready), proxy groups (groups of soldiers which are ‘friends’ with Iran).
