Walk and talk – level 3

28-03-2025 15:00

Nilofer Merchant suggests a simple idea that can improve both health and productivity: turning one-on-one meetings into walking meetings.

Instead of sitting in offices or cafés, people can walk while discussing their work. This method helps reduce the risks linked to long periods of sitting, which include heart disease, diabetes, and even certain types of cancer. Merchant shares her personal experience of being invited to a walking meeting. At first, it felt unusual, but she soon realized its benefits. Now, she walks up to 30 miles a week while having meetings.

Walking meetings allow people to stay active without sacrificing work time. They also encourage creative thinking by taking people out of their usual office environment. She believes that many problems seem like opposites, but they don’t have to be. Health and work can go together, just like walking and meetings. Fresh air and movement can bring fresh ideas, making work both effective and enjoyable.

Difficult words: productivity (the ability to get work done efficiently), sacrifice (to give up something important).
