In Sao Paulo, many women protest against a new law.

This law would make abortions after 22 weeks a crime like murder. The law would put women in prison for six to 20 years. The women carry signs and shout, ‘A child is not a mother, a rapist is not a father’. Now, in Brazil, abortion is possible only if there is rape, serious health problems for the baby, or danger to the mother’s life. Women say this law is very bad. They say that it is worse than the penalty for rapists. It will be bad for children who are hurt in families.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva says that the law is crazy. He will fight against it.

Difficult words: abortion (ending a pregnancy), rapist (a person who makes someone have sex with them), rape (the crime when someone makes you have sex with them against your wish).
