Women make land safe – level 1

Many bombs are in fields in northern Iraq. Islamic State puts the bombs there. These bombs kill people. Farmers can’t grow crops there. It is too dangerous.
A group of women clear a field. They divide the field into parts. They clear one part at a time. At first, this work is very difficult for the women. They are scared of the bombs. Then, they learn how to do the work safely.
The women have another problem. They must follow military rules. Officials say that the work is similar to military work.
The women can’t tell anyone what they do. It is not usual in Iraq that women work in the military.
Difficult words: crops (plants which farmers grow and sell), divide (to put into parts), military (something that is part of the soldiers and army).
