World’s highest railway bridge – level 3
16-08-2024 07:00
India has completed the construction of the world’s highest single-arch railway bridge. It’ll connect the remote region of Kashmir with the rest of the country for the first time by rail.
The bridge spans 1.3 km over the Chenab River and is 359 meters tall, making it even higher than the Eiffel Tower. This new rail link is crucial both in times of peace and conflict. It’ll allow the transport of military personnel and equipment to border areas and strengthen India’s border security. Additionally, the rail connection will have a significant economic impact on the region, particularly for fruit growers who often face road blockages and landslides. Transporting goods by train could open up new markets, especially in southern India, increasing farmers’ incomes.
Moreover, improved connectivity might boost tourism in Kashmir, which is already experiencing a rise in visitors. However, the region’s ongoing conflicts may limit the full benefits of this engineering marvel.
Difficult words: crucial (very important), boost (to help to increase or improve), marvel (a wonderful thing).
