China is celebrating a big success after launching three astronauts, also called taikonauts, to its Tiangong space station.

The US is worried because NASA’s chief said the two countries are in a new space race. NASA worries that China will try to claim parts of the Moon and its resources, like minerals and metals. This year, China plans a record number of space missions, including getting samples from the Moon. The three astronauts all trained hard for the trip, among them is the country’s first female space engineer. They will spend six months in space where they will do science experiments and spacewalks.

China and the US may compete even more in the future because both want to lead in space.

Difficult words: claim (to say that you own something), resource (all the materials or metals which are in the world), compete (to try to be better than someone or something else).
