Marimekko is a famous company from Finland. It is 75 years old. This company makes beautiful clothes, bags, and plates with very bright colors and big pictures. The name means Mary’s dress.

A woman starts the company after World War II. She wants to make the world happy and full of colors. At first, people do not know what to make with the colorful cloth. So, the company holds a big fashion show with nice dresses. Everyone likes it. In 1960, Jackie Kennedy wears a Marimekko dress in a magazine. Then, the company becomes famous all over the world. Designers get ideas from beautiful flowers and green gardens. Today, almost every home in Finland has something from Marimekko.

Difficult words: bright (strong and light in color), plate (a flat, round dish on which we put food when we eat), fashion show (an event where models walk and wear new clothes).
