End of the Circus – level 2
20-01-2017 15:00
The circus, also known as “the Greatest Show on Earth” is going to end forever in May, due to high costs and decreasing popularity. Audience numbers went down after animal rights groups pressured the circus to stop the elephant show. Technology also played a role in ending the circus.
The circus will perform 30 more shows between now and May, so that its fans will get to say goodbye before the final curtain call.
Difficult words: the Greatest Show on Earth (the name for the circus since the 1800s), pressure (push someone to do something), curtain call (when people in a performance come out at the end to bow to the audience).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
