Bodies in a Truck – level 3

39 Chinese people were found dead in a truck in Essex, southeast England. The police said that 31 of them were men and 8 were women. It will take some time to find out who the people were and why they died.

Belgium helped with the investigation because the police thought that the truck came to England from Belgium. The driver was a 25-year-old man. The police arrested him and he is in custody.

The British Prime Minister is shocked by what happened. He said that police were working hard to find out what exactly happened. The Essex police said that it was the largest investigation in its history.

Difficult words: investigation (the process when police collect information about something bad that happens), arrest (put a person in prison), custody (a situation when somebody is held by police until they solve a case).
