New York Bans Plastic Bags – level 2
09-03-2020 15:00
New York bans plastic bags from April 1. Officials want to stop people using plastic bags in stores. They say that there are more and more plastic bags in the state, and it is bad for the environment.
In New York, people use more than 23 billion plastic bags every year.
Grocery stores and other shops must implement the ban quickly. If they break the new rules, they get a warning. However, if they break the rules again, they must pay a fine.
Some shops can still use plastic bags to pack meat and takeout food.
Difficult words: ban (to stop something officially), implement (to start using a plan or system), fine (money that you must pay if you break a rule or a law).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
