Applause for Spanish Workers – level 2

30-03-2020 07:00

Spain is one of the most affected countries by coronavirus in Europe. On Saturday, the Spanish government declared a state of emergency, and people cannot leave their homes for two weeks.

On Saturday evening, people stood on balconies, and they applauded doctors and healthcare workers for their work.

Medical workers, police officers, and bus drivers meet in front of a hospital in Madrid. They want to show that they understand the hard work of the emergency services. The workers make this ritual every evening to encourage each other during the coronavirus outbreak and to pay tribute to people who died of coronavirus.

Difficult words: declare a state of emergency (to say that a disaster has happened to get help from the government), applaud (when people clap their hands to show their respect or to praise somebody), ritual (a regular activity), tribute (what somebody does to show respect or to express that he likes something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
