City in Orange Fog – level 2
16-09-2020 15:00
One September morning, people in San Francisco woke up, and they saw something unbelievable. The sky was orange, and there was a thick dark fog. Some people thought that the end of the world was coming.
The big cloud of smoke and ash was the result of the worst wildfires in California history, and it covered a big part of the state. More than 14,000 firefighters have tried to get the fires under control; however, 2.3 million acres have burned already.
Experts say that the orange glow happens when the smoke stays low above the ground, and it filters the sun.
Difficult words: ash (a grey powder that stays after something burns), glow (steady orange or pink light without flames), filter (to stop or slow down liquid, gas, or light from going through).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
