Lego city – level 3
10-08-2021 07:00
A 55-square-meter Lego city is on display in Zvenigorod on the outskirts of Moscow, Russia. Also, on display are original sets including packaging from the 60s and 70s, not to mention creations of Rome’s Colosseum, the Taj Mahal, and Yoda.
Timus Murtazin, the founder of Lego museum Let’s Go, started building some of the pieces at 6 years old, and it has been a life-long passion for him. Murtazin has built a bustling metropolis complete with a fire station, a roller coaster, and its own train. He had a rule to assemble it once and to never disassemble nor modify any part of it.
Asya Borisova, Murtazin’s wife, said that she hadn’t been a particular fan of Lego when she met Murtazin. However, the man showed her that Lego can be interesting not only for children, but also for adults. She became interested in studying the history of the company, and she started to love Lego.
In 2022, Lego celebrates its 90th birthday, and during its history, it’s seen good times and bad, too. In 2003 and 2004, the company saw heavy financial losses; however, recruiting life-long fans to help create products helped make money, and in 2020, Lego reported a sales increase of over 20%, and the company hopes to open 120 new stores worldwide.
Difficult words: bustling (full of activity), modify (to make slight changes to something), recruit (to find suitable people to join a company or organization).
