World’s best skater can go to the Olympics – level 1

Erin Jackson is an American athlete. She is the world’s best speed skater. She is the best in 500-meter skating.
Jackson is in the US Olympic trials. The Olympic trials are when officials choose athletes to go to the Olympic Games. The trials are a special event for athletes.
Two of the fastest athletes can go to the Olympics. Everyone thinks that Jackson will win. Then, something unusual happens to her. She makes a mistake. Then, two athletes are faster. This means that she cannot go to the Olympics.
The winner is Brittany Bowe. She can do three different races at the Olympics. She can do 500, 1,000, and 1,500 meters.
She gives her place in the 500-meter race to Jackson. The place gives her time to be in the race. Jackson is her good friend. Jackson is very lucky.
Difficult words: speed skater (an athlete who skates very fast on an oval course), event (a thing which happens), race (when people try to be faster than the others).
