Crimea is a part of Ukraine in the past. Russian soldiers come to Crimea in 2014. They control Crimea.

Then, a war starts between Ukraine and Russia. 14,000 people die. Millions of people leave their homes. The situation is serious. The war is almost eight years long. The two countries still have problems after the war ends.

Now, thousands of Russian soldiers are near the border with Ukraine. World leaders are afraid that another war will start soon.

Russia says that it will not attack Ukraine. It says that Ukraine is an important country for Russia. It is between Russia and the West. Russia is afraid that the West will help Ukraine.

Difficult words: soldier (a person who fights in a war), border (a line between two countries), the West (Europe and North America when we compare them to the rest of the world).
