US snowstorm – level 2

A heavy snowstorm hit the US, and it cut power for more than 1.5 million people.
The storm was a so-called bomb cyclone, which was an area of very low pressure. It extended more than 3,200 kilometers, and it brought ice, snow, and wind to some states. In some areas, temperatures dropped to -45 degrees Celsius. People burned clothes for warmth after they ran out of fuel. In New York City, all fire trucks got stuck in snow. At least 13 people died in Buffalo near the Canadian border. The storm was the worst in 45 years, and people died in their cars and in the snow.
In some areas, the weather conditions improved, but forecasts said that more snow would come later in the week.
