In a remarkable feat of resilience, four Indigenous children were rescued alive from the Colombian Amazon on Friday afternoon.

The children miraculously survived a plane crash in the Amazon jungle that killed their mother, the pilot, and another adult. The children, aged 13, 9, 4, and 1, endured the dangers of the dense rainforest for 40 days. The search and rescue operation, known as Operation Hope, involved 150 soldiers, 200 volunteers, and 10 search dogs.

Messages were broadcasted to the children, and food was dropped from helicopters to support their survival. After weeks of searching, the children were finally discovered alive, malnourished, and covered in insect bites, but in stable condition. Even the youngest child, who ended up spending his first birthday in the jungle. They were wrapped in thermal blankets and taken to a hospital for specialized care. Their survival was attributed to the knowledge they gained from their grandmother, an elder in the Indigenous community.

The president of Colombia praised their resilience and called it a joy for the whole country.
