Crooked House pub burns down – level 2
16-08-2023 07:00
The Crooked House pub in Staffordshire, UK, caught fire just nine days after new owners bought it.
Shockingly, the owners demolished the building only two days later. People gathered at the site to show their sadness over losing this historic pub. The police are treating the fire as arson, which means that they believe that someone started the fire in order to destroy the building. They also said that the demolition happened without permission. Reports say that the excavator was at the location already a week before the fire.
Thousands of people signed a petition, and they asked the owner to build the pub again.
Difficult words: gather (to come together), permission (allowing someone to do something), excavator (a large machine that digs and moves earth).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What do you think should happen with the Crooked House pub site now?
