Australia will vote on Indigenous people – level 2
04-09-2023 15:00
On October 14, Australia is holding a referendum to change the constitution and recognize Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese sees this as a good chance to unite the country. The referendum wants to introduce a group of Indigenous people who will advise on federal things. People have different opinions on the referendum. Some people hope that Indigenous people will live better but others worry that they will get too much power.
There were other referendums in Australia in the past and it is a serious issue for many people.
Difficult words: constitution (basic laws of a country), unite (to get together), federal (related to the government or country).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What are the potential outcomes of the October 14 referendum that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is pushing for?
