A man with Parkinson’s walks again – level 2

A Swiss-made implant helps a Parkinson’s patient named Marc Gauthier to walk better.
Marc had trouble moving around and was mostly at home. But at Lausanne University Hospital, Switzerland, they put a special device in his body. The man has electrodes on his spinal cord and a little machine under his skin which sends electric signals. These signals make his leg muscles work better.
Gauthier said that this device changed his life, and now he can go out, do things, and walk on his own. Parkinson’s is a disease that makes people shaky and stiff, and it is hard for them to move. Doctors plan to test this device on six more patients next year. They think it can help more people with Parkinson’s feel better and walk easier.
