The story of Alex Batty – level 2
22-12-2023 07:00
British teenager Alex Batty allegedly escaped his mother’s custody six years ago and traveled across the Pyrenees when she announced her plans to move to Finland.
Alex, now 17, lived a nomadic lifestyle with his grandfather and mother, and he spent two years in spiritual communities across Spain, Morocco, and France. His breaking point came when his mother said that she wanted to move to Finland. Carrying only 100 euros and a skateboard, he met a driver in a remote place in France. Alex told the driver that he needed a future.
Alex will reunite with his legal guardian, grandmother Susan. Authorities don’t know where Alex’s mother is and they are investigating details of his disappearance.
Difficult words: custody (care), nomadic (moving from one place to another), disappearance (going missing).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What challenges do you think Alex may have faced while living a nomadic lifestyle for two years?
