A boy beats Tetris

Willis Gibson, a 13-year-old in Oklahoma, the United States, is believed to be the first person ever to beat Tetris, a game popularized by Nintendo, since its release over three decades ago.

Previously, only AI-powered bots had reached the game’s challenging ‘kill screen’. In a video, Willis plays for about 38 minutes, reaching level 157 before freezing the game at a score of 999999. The president of the Classic Tetris World Championship, Vince Clemente, stated that this feat was considered impossible until recently.

Willis, who practices for around 20 hours a week on a cathode-ray tube television, dedicated his win to his late father. Having started playing Tetris only two years ago, he became one of the country’s top competitive players.
