23-01-2024 15:00

Turkey’s first astronaut, Alper Gezeravcı, alongside three other crew members, embarked on a journey to the International Space Station (ISS) from Florida.

Launched by SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule, the Axiom quartet’s 36-hour flight aims to dock at the ISS, currently occupied by seven regular crew members. Axiom Space, a Texas startup, orchestrates commercially arranged space missions. The crew representing Europe will conduct over 30 scientific experiments during their two-week stay, emphasizing research on the effects of spaceflight on human health and disease.

The mission symbolizes the increasing global participation in Earth orbit exploration, enhancing prestige and scientific contributions. Axiom’s venture into commercial space endeavors, with SpaceX as a partner, positions it as a key player in future space station projects.

Difficult words: orchestrate (to arrange or plan), prestige (high regard or respect gained through achievements or success), endeavor (an attempt to achieve a goal).
