The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has intensified its scrutiny of Boeing by recommending inspections on Boeing 737-900ER jets.

This comes after reports of unspecified bolt issues with door plugs. The move follows a mid-air panel blowout on an Alaska Airlines MAX 9 jet, prompting heightened regulatory attention on Boeing. The FAA advises airlines to inspect mid-exit door plugs on 737-900ER planes, with findings of bolt issues noted during maintenance inspections. Although the 737-900ER is an older model, it shares an optional door plug design with the newer 737 MAX 9.

Boeing, facing quality control concerns, has grounded 171 MAX 9 planes, and the FAA recommends prompt inspections to ensure safety.
