Israel bans Al Jazeera – level 2
10-05-2024 15:00
Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet decided to ban Al Jazeera, the Qatari news network. Israeli people will not have access to its website and will not be able to watch broadcasts.
Officials said that Al Jazeera supported Hamas and it was dangerous for the country’s security. Al Jazeera argued that this was not true, and they plan to take legal action. According to Al Jazeera’s boss, the government wants to hide information about the situation in Gaza.
The ban follows long-running problems between Israel and Al Jazeera. In the past, Al Jazeera said that Israel attacked its people and buildings.
Difficult words: broadcast (to transmit a program or some information by radio or television), security (being safe), hide (to keep secret or away from people).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Why did the Israeli government decide to ban Al Jazeera, and how does the news network plan to respond to this action?
