Italy needs more lifeguards – level 1

05-08-2024 07:00

In Italy, there are not enough lifeguards.

Daniel Gergaia is 20 years old. He likes his job as a lifeguard. He trains for months in the Adriatic Sea. This year, it is hard to find lifeguards because training takes 100 hours now. In the past, it is only 30. Lifeguarding is a serious job. It is not just about enjoying the sun. It is about saving lives. Alberto Biagini works as a lifeguard for 29 years. Young lifeguards prefer swimming pools because they are easier.

Last summer, lifeguards in Rimini save 75 people from drowning. It is hard to find new lifeguards because students have exams in the summer. Danielle likes his job and says it is a good job.

Difficult words: lifeguard (a person who saves people who have problems in water), serious (not funny), drown (to die in water).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the current training duration required to become a lifeguard in Italy, and how does it compare to the past?
