Mango founder dies – level 3

17-12-2024 15:00

Isak Andic, the founder of Mango, a global fashion brand, passed away at 71 after a tragic mountain accident. He fell over 100 meters from a cliff while hiking with family near Barcelona.

Born in Istanbul, Andic moved to Catalonia in the 1960s and started Mango in 1984. By the time of his death, he was Mango’s non-executive chairman and was worth 4.5 billion dollars, according to Forbes.

Known for competing with Inditex owner Amancio Ortega, Andic was a key figure in global fashion. Under his leadership, Mango achieved a 3.1 billion euro turnover in 2023, with a significant portion of its business online and a presence in over 120 markets. His sudden death leaves a void in the fashion world.

Mango’s CEO, Toni Ruiz, expressed sadness, stating that the company would honor Andic’s legacy by continuing his ambitious vision.

Difficult words: void (a completely empty space), legacy (something left behind after someone’s death).
