Trump meets with TikTok boss – level 2
20-12-2024 15:00
The US may ban TikTok on January 19th, but the app is fighting back.
The app asked the Supreme Court to stop the ban, saying it is unfair. President-elect Trump, who earlier called TikTok dangerous, is now thinking differently. He met TikTok’s CEO to talk about its future. TikTok’s owner, ByteDance, must sell the app or face the ban. Many people use TikTok for fun, business, or news, and the ban could cause 1 billion dollars in losses in just one month.
Trump said TikTok helped him in the 2024 election, so he might try to save it. It is unclear if his team will change the law or delay the ban, but time is running out before January 20th.
Difficult words: Supreme Court (the highest court in the US), president-elect (a person who won an election but is not in office yet), CEO (the biggest boss in a company).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What actions has TikTok taken to prevent the potential ban in the US and what could be the possible financial implications of such a ban?
