Du Bois documentary – level 1

23-12-2024 07:00

W.E.B. Du Bois lives in the 20th century. He is a great leader and writer.

Du Bois works hard to stop the unfair treatment of Black people. He writes a book called The Souls of Black Folk. In the book, he talks about how hard it is to be both African and American. Du Bois also uses facts and pictures to show that Black people are just as smart and talented as anyone else.

In 1920, he writes a story called The Comet about a disaster. After the disaster, people stop treating Black and white people differently for a little while.

Du Bois helps start the NAACP, a group that works to make life fairer for Black people. Du Bois also loves sad songs. This music helps Black people feel better.

Difficult words: treatment (how someone behaves towards you), fact (a true thing), disaster (an event which hurts many people).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What book did W.E.B. Du Bois write to discuss the difficulties of being both African and American, and what organization did he help start to promote fairness for Black people?
