Europe does not get Russian gas – level 1

10-01-2025 07:00

The deal for Russian gas through Ukraine ends. Ukraine’s president, Zelensky, says no to more gas from Russia. He says that it helps Russia in the war.

The EU is ready for this. It says that things will be okay. But some countries have problems, for example, Slovakia and Moldova. Moldova does not have enough gas right now. Now, gas comes to some countries through another pipeline called TurkStream.

Before, Europe has cheap gas from Russia. Now, the EU buys gas from places like the US and Norway. But this gas costs more money. People in Europe pay higher prices than people in America.

Difficult words: deal (when countries or organizations do business together), pipeline (a tube for sending gas or liquid).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are some of the countries mentioned in the text that are facing problems due to the end of the Russian gas deal through Ukraine?
