Europe does not get Russian gas – level 2
10-01-2025 07:00
The deal for Russian gas to go through Ukraine to the EU is over. This happened because Ukraine’s President Zelensky refused to allow more gas. He said it supported Russia’s war.
The EU had a year to prepare, and the European Commission says it can handle this change. But some countries, like Slovakia, may have problems, and Moldova already has less gas. Gas now comes to Hungary, Turkey, and Serbia using the TurkStream pipeline.
For many years, Russia supplied cheap gas to Europe, but now the EU gets gas from other countries like the US and Norway. This gas is more expensive, and EU citizens pay much more than Americans.
Difficult words: refuse (to say no), supply (to give or provide), citizen (a person of a country).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What are some of the potential problems that countries like Slovakia and Moldova might face due to Ukraine's refusal to allow more Russian gas through its territory to the EU?
